Allan was born in Hitchin,Herts in 1971.He began playing the guitar at the age of 4,and then took up the violin at 9 years of age,changing to the viola at the age of 12.At secondary school,Allan was fortunate enough to around some great musicians,including Jon Noyce (Jethro Tull) and James Pearson (Ronnie Scotts).At the age of seventeen while in the sixth form,Allan, Jon and James along with violinist Chris Garrick, formed "Nobody's Quartet" in 1988.They entered a Daily Telegraph national competition,where their came joint first,culminating in a Gala concert at Manchester's Royal Northern College of Music. After school,Allan went on to study for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music at Kingston University before starting a professional career in 1994 .Allan has since toured the world and worked with many critically and commercially acclaimed artists from Zero 7 to James Morrison.
